RELISH IN REGIONAL ARCHITECTURE

Regional Architecture within Australia has become more sophisticated over the last decade. The Mornington Peninsula in Victoria offers a wide range of varied architectural styles. Here are some examples of both modern and vintage designs.

Nestled in the rugged landscape of Victoria's coastline, RACV Cape Schanck Resort designed by Wood Marsh Architects, provides luxury resort style accomodation for couples and families. With views to Port Philip Bay and overlooking the adjacent golf course, the building also provides ocean views towards Bass Strait. Materials for the build have been specifically chosen to age and take on a unique quality over time. The resort provides generous size bedrooms, well appointed bathrooms, two stylish restaurants and a large swimming pool and recreational area.

Located within the vineyards of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria is Jackalope Hotel and Restaurant by Carr Design. Jackalope provides an environment that is collaborative in nature, with Carr Design working in conjunction with Australian artists who have provided installations throughout the site. Upon arriving, artist Emily Floyd's seven metre oversized jackalope sculpture is positioned at the entry of the hotel. Inside includes smaller sculptures and a laboratory style bar area in the 'Flagerdoot' cocktail lounge and golden pendent ceiling in the 'Doot Doot Doot' private dining area. The accomodation interiors incorporate bespoke art and design, as does the 'Rare Hare' wine and food store that provides culinary treats indoor and outdoors adjacent to the vineyards.

Down the road from Jackalope are two well know vintage architectural gems, Mossy Willow Farm in Main Ridge and Merricks General Store in Merricks. Mossy Willow Farm is open on weekends for the general public and sell locally grown produce. There is a great repurposed shed upon arrival, a small cabin living accomodation on wheels situated near the fields of crops, a silver Airstream retro van, and open air sheds with garlic bulbs hanging from the rafters. Mossy Willow Farm is part of the Small Giants Group initiatives and provides a rural working farm location for retreats, workshops and events.

Merricks General Wine Store is a combination of food, wine, local produce and art. Located within the rustic original general store in the coastal town of Merricks, this food lovers locale is a favourite destination for locals and tourists. The bifold windows have spectacular views towards the ocean and the interior is reminiscent of farm houses local to the area, with exposed beams and rafters, and whitewashed shiplap on the interior and exterior walls, the atmosphere is buzzing with family and friends.
